View from Panhandle Gap looking toward Summerland Camp. The meadow in front of the camp is visible in the lower stand of trees on the right.

  • Summerland Bear

    Summerland Bear

The troubling bear, strolling through the Summerland camp area shortly after I arrived. Distinguishable from the other bear in the area that day by its darker coloring below a lighter coloring on top.

  • Meanie Crest

    Meanie Crest

A view of Meanie Crest from the Summerland Camp. The route onto the crest is outside the this view to the right. The Wonderland Trail toward Panhandle Gap is visible in the lower middle. When the bear began following me up, I broke off my hike to the crest and headed to the WT where a group of day hikers were having lunch.

  • Food Bag

    Food Bag

The state of my food bag minutes after the bear got to it. This shot was taken with bear standing about 12 feet back while we grabbed my gear from the site. As soon as we did, the bear returned to finish his (my!) dinner.

The Summerland group site where I relocated since the bear had taken up residence in my site. My tent and gear is in the foreground.

What was left of my food bag in the morning. The bear had eaten even my soap.

  • Rest Stop

    Rest Stop

With roughly 1800' of steep climb remaining to the Burroughs Mtn. summit, and running very low on energy, I stopped here for a rest. After consuming my remaining beef jerky and cheese, a Motrin, and some water, I took a 20-minute nap before starting the climb.

Still about 400' feet below the Burroughs Mountain summit, looking back down toward where I had taken my nap.

At the Burroughs Mountain summit, the day hikers that gave me a banana, whole wheat bread slathered with honey, and a bottle of water. (Thank you!)

The trail down from Burroughs Mountain to Frozen Lake and then just a few more miles to Sunrise, where they sell cheeseburgers!

  • Cheeseburger!

    Cheeseburger!

Cheeseburger at Sunrise! Man, did that ever hit the spot!

The end of another wonderful Wonderland adventure! Now, just a few hundred feet to go to my car.
